KOOS-PS · Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score Physical Function Short Form

7 items · 3 min · 0–100 · lower is better

1 Before you use it

What it is

Seven items distilled from KOOS to measure physical function alone. Three minutes.

Note the direction flips: KOOS-PS is scored so that higher means worse, unlike the parent KOOS.

When to reach for it

Knee osteoarthritis on a busy list, or where you want function tracked frequently without a 42-item questionnaire each time.

2 Giving it

Scoring

Seven items converted to 0–100 via a published lookup table. Higher means more difficulty — the opposite of KOOS.

What it doesn’t measure

Pain, symptoms, sport or quality of life. It is deliberately one subscale's worth of information.

3 Reading the score

Interpreting it

Interpret against baseline.

Is the change real?

No verified MCID or MDC is carried in our library for this measure, so the number on its own cannot tell you a change is real. Compare it to this patient's own baseline and say what changed functionally.

Student trap. Plotting KOOS-PS on the same axis as KOOS. They run in opposite directions.
