Licensed — we carry the score, never the form

1 Before you use it

What it is

Metadata only. Twelve items on knee pain and function over the past four weeks, developed for total knee replacement and widely used beyond it.

When to reach for it

When it appears in arthroplasty correspondence. For your own baseline use KOOS-12.

Patterns it serves · 1

2 Giving it

Scoring

Twelve items, 0–4, totalling 0–48. Higher is better in the current scoring; an older 12–60 reversed convention exists.

What it doesn’t measure

Sport, instability, or activity level.

3 Reading the score

Interpreting it

Is the change real?

MCID about 9 points within one patient; about 5 when comparing two groups. MDC 4 points at 90% confidence. Compare the change against this patient's own baseline as well as the figure. SourceMeasured in after knee arthroplasty.

Student trap. Mixing the two scoring conventions across a patient's records.

Licensed through innovation.ox.ac.uk. We don't host the form.

Use instead: KOOS — same construct, no licence.

This is a learning tool. It does not diagnose patients and does not replace your clinical educator.
