Alongside the WPI, when widespread pain and the associated symptom cluster are present.

2 Giving it

Scoring

Three symptom items (0–3 each) plus a somatic symptom score (0–3), totalling 0–12. Higher means more severe.

What it doesn’t measure

Diagnose, or measure impact — use FIQR for impact.

3 Reading the score

Interpreting it

Used with the WPI as part of a diagnostic criteria set. No verified thresholds are carried in our library and none are printed here.

Recognition and referral, not diagnosis.

Is the change real?

MCID 1.04 points on the 1–5 scale. Compare the change against this patient's own baseline as well as the figure. SourceMeasured in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Student trap. Scoring it without the WPI. The two are designed to be read together.

This is a learning tool. It does not diagnose patients and does not replace your clinical educator.
